The purpose of our "Rental Policies" page is to inform our customers so that there are no surprises when they arrive to rent a vehicle. Our goal is to provide a smooth rental process so that our customers will get their stay in the Orlando area off to a positive start. We thank you for the interest that you have shown in our company and look forward to helping you in any way that we can.
Currency
All dollar amounts listed on this site are in United States currency.
Typographical Errors Resulting in Incorrect Rates
American Car Rental will not honor a rate that was entered incorrectly by any member of our staff or for malfunctions in the car rental reservation program that permit customers to reserve a car at an unintended rate.
American Car Rental will cancel any reservations made due to clerical or software errors and will notify customers within twenty-four hours of a reservation being made if such a typographical error or other malfunction has occurred.
The customer will then have the right to reserve the car again at the correct rate.

Hotel and Vacation Home Pickups
Unless other special provisions have been made in advance, you will need to give us a call after arriving at your hotel or vacation home so that we may arrange a pick up time that best suits your needs. From there, you will be transported to our Lake Buena Vista office, which is located across from Downtown Disney, to collect your rental car.
All reservations will be held for a maximum of 1 hour unless you call and arrange for a later pickup that same day. We do not pick up customers after 5:30 PM and are not responsible for delays in airline schedules.
Customers will not be guaranteed a vehicle or the same rate if they fail to call us within 1 hour of their scheduled pickup time.
Please keep in mind that, unless other special provisions have been made in advance, our office opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 6:00PM. Any calls placed to our Lake Buena Vista office outside of the normal operating hours may not be answered.

International Renters
All valid national and international driver's licenses (that are written in English) are accepted.
Renters who live outside of the United States or Canada are required to purchase the Collision Damage Waiver and Supplemental Liability Insurance unless they have a credit card issued from a United States bank that will cover the rental car. Because credit cards do not typically include third party liability insurance, international renters who have a credit card issued by an American bank will still be required to purchase the Supplemental Liability Insurance.

Driving Area Restrictions
American Car Rental offers unlimited mileage within the state of Florida to non-Florida residents. Florida residents are limited to 150 miles per day, 750 miles per week or 2,000 miles per month, whichever is less. Florida residents will be charged 20 cents per mile for each mile driven in excess of those limits.
Any driver, regardless of where they are from, that is found to have driven a vehicle outside the state of Florida will receive no complimentary mileage and will be charged 20 cents per mile from the first mile driven.

Equipment Rental
Child/Infant seats are available to rent for $4.99 per day and must be reserved in advance to guarantee availability.
GPS navigation units are also available to rent for $9 per day and must be reserved in advance to guarantee delivery.

Fuel
Please return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel that was in it at the time of rental to avoid refueling charges of $5.00 per gallon to the nearest 1/8 gallon.
Accidents
An American Car Rental accident form must be filled out by any customer who is involved in an accident in one of our rental vehicles. All customers must also provide us with a police report and call us as soon as it is practical in the event of an accident.
Customers who have elected to purchase the Collision Damage Waiver or Deductible Waiver must have a police report for any new damage to the vehicle that they have rented. Failure to provide a police report will render any Collision Damage Waiver or Deductible Waiver purchased from American Car Rental null and void.

Only One Discount Applies
Any discounts that a customer may be eligible for cannot be combined with any other discounts. Only one discount, whichever is higher, will apply.
No Other Disounts Apply
The rates listed on this site are typically lower than the rates you may obtain by calling our rental office directly because no employees are involved in the automated process. No other discounts or coupons apply unless they are obtained from this site on the Coupon page.
Customers may be asked for proof of eligibility at the rental counter in order to receive any discount that they have applied for.

Courtesy
We always try to conduct ourselves in a professional and courteous manner and expect our customers to extend the same courtesy. We reserve the right to refuse to rent to any customer who is loud or abusive in any way.
Right to change our policies
American Car Rental reserves the right to change our policies at any time without notice and it is the customer's responsibility to check our Policies page to see if any changes have been made that may affect their reservation.
Age Requirements
Minimum Age: 18
Age 18 to 20 - All drivers must be at least 18 years of age to rent a vehicle. Drivers who are under the age of 21 must pay an additional surcharge of $21USD per day. Drivers under the age of twenty-one who live in the state of Florida MUST provide their own proof of third party liability insurance as well as proof of collision damage insurance that will cover the rental vehicle for damages up to and including total loss in the event of an accident.
Age 21 to 24 - Each driver who is at least 21 years of age but under the age of 25 must pay an additional surcharge of $15 USD per day.
All drivers must be at least 18 years of age to rent a vehicle.

A surcharge of $7.50/day will be assessed to rental agreements where it is found that an unauthorized driver has driven the rental vehicle. This amount is in addition to any other amounts such as underage fees that may be assessed because of the unauthorized driver.
Spouses may be added at $3.00/day additional driver charge.

Cancelation Policy
We make every effort to provide the best service we can which is only possible because of our excellent staff and careful planning. If you need to cancel or change your reservation, please let us know at least 2 hours in advance so that we may plan our day and staff utilization more effectively.
Customers will not be guaranteed a vehicle or the same rate if they arrive 1 hour after or any time before their scheduled pick up time and date without notifying us in advance.
Insurance and Coverage
If you have your own full coverage insurance on a late model vehicle from one of the major insurance companies, they may very well cover our rental car. In this case, only you and your insurance agent can determine what is in your best interests. If you decide to decline our coverage options, you must show proof of full coverage insurance that will cover our vehicle at the time of rental.
Those customers who are at least 21 years of age who do not have a personal auto insurance policy that will cover our vehicle and/or third party liability will be required to purchase our Collision Damage Waiver and/or Supplemental Liability Insurance.
Drivers under the age of 21 who are from the United States or Canada may not purchase our Collision Damage Waiver or Supplemental Liability Insurance and must show proof of their own personal automobile insurance that will cover our rental vehicle and third party liability. American Car Rental will not rent a car to those drivers without such proof.
All customers who live outside of the United States or Canada must purchase our Collision Damage Insurance. Credit Cards that include rental car insurance will not be accepted for collision insurance purposes unless they are issued by an American bank.
Customers who are renting with a cash, check card or debit card deposit are REQUIRED to purchase our Collision Damage Waiver or Deductible Waiver.
We do not accept credit cards as proof of insurance for the purpose of third party liability, since this type of insurance is not typically included by credit card companies.
